Discussion on Epidemic Situation Along the Belt and Road, Showing Intensive Care Level of Zhejiang Hospital

As COVID-19 has spread worldwide, China has also gone through more than half a year of epidemic prevention and treatment. The ICU workers in Zhejiang Hospital, on the premise of assuring a higher treatment rate in Zhejiang, rushed to Wuhan and accumulated a wealth of experience in the treatment of COVID-19.

At 7:00 pm on July 10 (Beijing Time), the Seminar on COVID-19 Prevention and Control and the Exchange Meeting on the Experience of COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Southeast Asian Countries Along the Belt and Road sponsored by Zhejiang Medical Association Critical Care Medicine Branch, Critical Care Medicine Committee of Zhejiang Medical Doctors Association and Zhejiang Hospital was held in the Conference Center of Dragon Hotel Hangzhou. Yan Jing and Hu Weihang, Secretary and Director of Zhejiang Hospital, exchanged their experience online with the experts from Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, on behalf of Zhejiang Hospital, Zhejiang Province, China.

Yan Jing, Party Secretary of Zhejiang Hospital, also served as Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of Critical Care Medicine, President of Critical Care Medicine Committee of Chinese Geriatrics Society and Chairman of Zhejiang Medical Association Critical Care Medicine Branch, has rich experience in critical disease treatment after years of hard work on the front line. As the moderator of the meeting, he said that since the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, the Chinese people have been taking resolute and strict prevention and control measures, saving numerous lives. As an advance force in the COVID-19 prevention and control in China, Zhejiang has been proactive in COVID-19 treatment, following in the principle of "health first, life supreme, full effort, no abandon". Here comes the summary of experience: First, patients with severe or critical diseases in the whole province were admitted for centralized treatment; second, experts of relevant disciplines were called together, with more than 700 medical backbones fighting in a united front; third, the supply of protection and treatment materials was guaranteed regardless of cost; fourth, regimens were developed by a multi-disciplinary team. Up to now, among a total of 1269 patients, 1267 have been cured, 1 has died, and 1 currently suffers. Despite the control over current situation in China to a certain extent, we never lower our guard, especially when we face a severe international situation. We should win the fight of human beings against the major infectious disease with firm confidence, concerted efforts and cooperative works.


Cai Hongliu, Director of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, Pan Konghan, Director of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Yang Xianghong, Director of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital, and Hu Weihang, Deputy Director of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Zhejiang Hospital, introduced their experience on COVID-19 prevention and control, difficulties, key points, and cautions in the treatment of critical diseases in Zhejiang Province.


Director Hu Weihang rushed to Wuhan during the outbreak and served as an attending doctor in the ICU of the Fourth Hospital of Wuhan, accumulating a wealth of on-site treatment experience. In this seminar, Director Hu introduced the diagnosis & treatment plan for COVID-19 in China, and elaborated the difficulties by taking typical cases in Wuhan as examples, re-appearing the treatment process at that time, which was vivid and instructive.


During the discussion, Director Cai Hongliu presented the basic data of plasma rehabilitation therapy in China; Director Yang Xianghong shared her experience on CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) or HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula) therapy for COVID-19 patients, and on the control of COVID-19 mortality rate to 0-3%; Director Pan Konghan introduced the efficacy and mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine; Director Hu Weihang shared his experience on currently available antiviral substances.

The seminar was also participated by the experts from other three countries, including Cong Quyet Thang, Professor of Huu Nghi Ha Noi Hospital and Chairman of Vietnam Society of Anesthesiologists; Suraphong lorsomradee, MD, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand and Director of Thailand International Association of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesiologists; Ike Sri Redjeki, Chairman of Indonesian Society of Intensive Care Medicine; Theresia Monica Rahardjo, Director of Permata Hati Hospital, Indonesia. After the meeting, the experts from the three countries unanimously praised the prevention and control effect in China and expressed their gratitude to the Zhejiang expert team for providing valuable treatment experience.
