I. Brief Introduction to the Department:

The Urology Department is an old traditional department of our hospital. It has 30 approved beds and 26 medical staff, including 10 specialists, 1 with senior professional title and 3 with intermediate professional title; 1 with Ph.D. and 9 with master degrees, the physicians at this department are adhering to the excellent traditions from the senior medical workers, and are taking relieving pains for the patients and improving the patients’ health as their tasks, with sound professional ethics, and they are active, careful, warm-hearted and responsible in work.

II. Scopes of Diagnosis and Treatment:

Our specialties mainly involve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of abnormal anatomical, physiological and pathological changes of adrenal gland, urinary system (double kidney, bilateral ureters, bladder, urethra), and male reproductive system (testis, epididymis, vas deferens duct, seminal vesicle gland, prostate, etc.). Common types of diseases within the specialties include: adrenal diseases (hyperplasia, cysts and substantial tumors, often with endocrine, blood abnormalities, etc pressure), kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra diseases (the common diseases such as: trauma, infection, stones, tumors, cysts, stenosis, water accumulation, deformity, etc), prostate diseases (the common diseases such as: prostate hyperplasia, chronic prostate inflammation, prostate cancer, etc), and the male reproductive system diseases (the common diseases such as: male sexual dysfunction, infertility, testicular tumor, seminal vesicle, epididymal inflammation, etc).

The department is equipped with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine, surgical microscope, plasma electrocutting system, electronic ureteral soft mirror, laparoscopic system, holmium laser system, C-arm machine, ultrasonic positioning puncture system and other advanced treatment equipment at home and abroad, our department has extensively carried out various kinds of endoscopic radical surgery (radical prostate cancer, radical renal pelvis cancer, radical bladder cancer + urinary flow diversion, adrenal tumor resection, etc), various endoscopic reconstruction surgeries (UPJ stricture reconstruction, ureteric plastic replantation, etc), various transurethral endoscopic surgical procedures (electroresection of bladder tumor, incision and expansion of urethra and ureteral stricture, electroplasma resection of prostate, holmium laser enucleation of prostate, lithotripsy of various complicated urinary tract stones, etc), and a variety of urological surgery minimally invasive cutting-edge surgeries (Holmium laser incision and internal drainage was performed for the parapelocele, microscopic high ligation of spermatic vein and TVT-O operation, etc), and all kinds of outpatient surgical operations: including exextracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, cystoscopy, ureteral stent placement and removal and prepuce cyclectomy, etc; the surgical effect has reached the advanced level of the third-grade A hospitals in China, with favorable public praises from the patients.

III. Special Operations:

1. Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer

The incidence of prostate cancer ranks the first among male malignant tumors in European and American countries, and it is also increasing year by year in China, which has become a serious harm to men’s health. For patients in the early and middle stages, surgery is the preferred radical treatment. Our department has fully adopted endoscopic minimally invasive surgery. Compared with traditional surgery, it has many advantages, such as more refined lesion resection, less intraoperative trauma, less bleeding, fast postoperative recovery, retention function and so on.

2. Double-mirror surgery combined with holmium laser lithotripsy for kidney stones

Kidney stones are one of the most common diseases of the urinary system. For complex staghorn kidney stones, the traditional percutaneous nephrolithotripsy operation is easy to lead to residual postoperative stones, while the flexible ureteral lithotripsy operation has the problems of too long operation time and high risk of intraoperative infection. Aiming at the foregoing difficulties, our department has taken the lead in carrying out percutaneous nephroscopy + transurethral ureteroscopy combined with holmium laser lithotripsy in the region, taking into account the advantages of high efficiency of percutaneous nephrolithotripsy and a wide range of soft ureteral lithotripsy, and improving the treatment effect of staghorn kidney stones to a new level.

3. Microscopic ligation of spermatic vein 

Varocele is a common male disease, which could cause testicular pain and discomfort and progressive testicular hypofunction, and it’s one of the main causes of male infertility. Our department has introduced a special microscope for cord vein surgery. Compared with traditional surgery, microscopic surgery has achieved fine separation of internal moving vein, which can ligate the vein more thoroughly, retain arteries and lymphatic vessels, less intraoperative bleeding, obvious improvement of postoperative semen quality, with fast recovery and less complications.

IV. Scientific Research and Academic:

Members of the department actively hold and participate in various academic exchanges and continuing education projects through various channels and ways every year, and they are fully undertaking the scientific research tasks under the prerequisite of catching up the clinical tasks, currently, more than 20 influential academic papers have been published on various journals at home and abroad, including 6 collected by SCI.

V. Popular Science Teaching:

Our department always takes “serving the people's health” as the purpose, and regularly conducts popular science speeches and free free clinic activities for the residents of the surrounding communities, and the influences of the Department are expanding year by year; Meanwhile, this Department is also undertaking the tasks of clinical internship, internship and regular training for medical students from Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine University, Hangzhou Normal University and other well-known universities in the province, teaching and improving the teaching level of the department, while continuously improving the teaching level of the department and cultivating a large number of excellent young doctors.
