 Hits: 2916 Time: 2020-07-01

As the old saying says, “the so-called great master doctor, has both a benevolent mind and heart”. Being a doctor must restrain his heart from pursuing reputation and interest, and shall concentrate on rescuing the people. The appellation of doctor not only refers to the white robe, rather refers to the benevolent heart of the doctor inside the white robe. Zhejiang Hospital is always taking “noble morality and professional medical skills” as the fundamental, and is rather insisting on paying equal attention to morality and skills. This requires a doctor not only possess medical skills, but also possess warmth.

The phrase “warm doctor” is often mentioned by people, so what’s a warm doctor? The answer is a doctor of warmth. It’s just like spring wind spreading the fragrance of morality, and the skills are boundless as endowed by nature. Zhu Jianfang, Director of Acupuncture Department is mostly such a doctor. She well understands the connotation of “the doctor’s benevolence”. She has infused her own years into acupuncture through the whole journey, she is continuously keeping improving her medical skills, and is always cherishing a loving heart. You could always see Director Zhu talking to patients with smiles at the Acupuncture Clinic. She is patiently inquiring the patients about their illness and recent conditions, and she is occasionally joking with the patients to change their anxious expressions into smiles. Symptoms of disease, sleeping, eating and emotional changes from the patients are all her concerns. She carefully treats every patient, timely adjusts acupoints according to state of illness. This extremely meticulous and precise attitude often bring confidence to the patients, and it will help the acupuncture treatment. Just attributed to this attitude combining professional and meticulous, the patients feel pretty warm. Maybe Director Zhu herself has no idea about this, your smile is a dose of medicine when you smile in your white coat.

The most impressive is that figure with a heart thinking for the patients. That figure is always the first appearing at the clinic in the very early morning. Director Zhu doesn’t want to let the patients down for many of them coming to the clinic specially for her sake, so she starts to work ahead of schedule, and she insists on taking all patients within the day. That figure is also injured sometime during working. The work intensity of the acupuncture clinic is pretty high, she often stands a whole day. In order to save more time to treat the patients, she seldom drink water at work to save time for toilet. Director Zhu often bends down with one knee down to the floor to treat some aged or stroke patients with difficulty in moving. Since clinics are open in both hospital areas, Director Zhu has to commute between the two hospitals, and she often get backache for too much work. She has cured many patients for their backache, but she has no time to treat herself. A call from the patient is just like a dose of medicine, which will make her forget her pain and bury herself in work. She often hears the concerned greetings from the patients, “Director Zhu, you should take care of your own body as well, we need you very much”. Warm current is flowing between the patients and doctor, it seems not like the patient-doctor relationship, while it turns up into a relationship of friends and elders and juniors. Therefore, many patients often come to the clinic to have heart-to-heart talk with Director Zhu to comfort their feeling. “Sometime cure, often help and always console”, Director Zhu is earnestly practising this. That figure could also defend the patients against injustice. One uncle treated at Director Zhu’s clinic was once cheated to buy many healthcare products by a high price, and he wanted to get back his money from the vendor, but the vendor refused. The uncle was agitated like an ant on a hot pan for her children were not around. Director Zhu contacted the vendor as a relative of the uncle after learning this, and got the money back for the uncle. This figure accompanies the patients at the clinic for four seasons over spring, summer, autumn and winter. The four seasons are alternating, but what remains unchanged is the concern from Director Zhu to the patients, and is her heart always worrying about the patients.

You are a warm sun in my mind, you not only warm up the soil, but rather bring your warmth to all sides. Director Zhu successively went to Akesu, Daishan, Yiwu and many other places for free clinical treatment. She has delivered high quality medical resources to the local people, solved their troubles of illnesses and has delivered special warmth to them. Director Zhu was warmly welcomed by the local people. Although many patients came to the free clinical treatment, she treated everyone of them equally. She patiently listened to them talking about their case history, and answered their questions. She solved problems for the patients after knowing about their states of illness, and many thanks were received from the patients during the free clinical treatment. As the old saying says, “it’s better to teach a man to fish than to give him fish”. Director Zhu used the spare time to deliver lectures for the local doctors during the free clinical treatment. She lectured some clinical ideas and treatment plans for acupuncture, and employed cases and examples to share her clinical experiences with them, and offered clinical reflections to the young doctors, so that acupuncture could better serve the people. Director Zhu went down to the grass-root and to communities, and transferred her full warmth to them, benefited more people and enabled them to experience the special charm of acupuncture. This is also an inheritance and carry-forward of the traditional Chinese medicine, and spread medicine of the country to thousands of households. She is just like the sunshine delivering her warmth to the earth.

One without benevolence cannot work as a doctor. The doctor in ancient time treated the patients by their hearts, and the medicine must be effective once heart was there. There is a long way to go as a doctor, and the original intention shall not be forgotten. Not only improving the medical skills, but rather being a doctor with warmth like Director Zhu. Just as said by Lin Qiaozhi, “doing common things with uncommon love.” Infuse warmth from your heart into each clinical detail. Take heaven and earth as my furnace and work as Doctor Bian Que”. Bear original intention in mind and forge ahead the whole journey!
