Diary of "Wuhan Epidemic Fight": We feel multiplied confidence watching patients recover and be discharged from hospital!

 Hits: 2961 Time: 2020-02-13

The Lantern Festival just passed

seems to be a gate of memory

Connecting to the colorful past

And the current fighting moment

In the face of the epidemic, heroes choose fight

The "warriors" struggling in the front line of fighting the epidemic

Write down every "battlefield diary"

In the rare rest time

Recording their thoughts about their loved ones

And the deep affection for comrades ...

May all parting have a happy reunion

This is the "intensive care unit"

We are fearless at any time

Although we have made thorough and arduous preparations, the treatment of patients with severe novel coronavirus and unexpected situations have shown us the severity. Last night, after the second batch of Zhejiang anti-COVID-19 emergency medical team stationed in the intensive care unit, the patients quickly became full. After receiving the information of the employees, the resident reserve personnel immediately started the emergency plan to reinforce the ward. Receiving, disposing, rescuing ... After all the patients were properly placed, it's early this morning. Although we can't completely call out their names, nor can we see the expressions on each other's faces, we can read their tired footsteps, firm eyes and inner steadfastness.

N95 masks, hats, gloves, protective clothing ... goggles, every careful and rigorous step is the foundation and guarantee for us to serve patients better. Today is the first time that Xiaosai entered the ward. "Madam, I can't breathe." Xiaosai pulled my clothes nervously. Although she has undergone adaptive training, it is normal for a girl born after 1990 when she really faces this moment. "It's okay, relax! Sit here for a while." I patted her back gently, led her to a chair and held her hands. I looked her in the eyes and told her, "Don't be nervous, we are all here. If you can't afford it, we have backup." She gently closed her eyes and rested on the chair for about 5 minutes. "Well, I can do it now." "Is it really okay?" "No problem! Believe me, madam!" This brave girl reorganized her protective equipment, and walked to the ward with firm steps ... This is the "intensive care unit", we are fearless at any time.

"We should go back together as we came here.”

When the rain stopped and the weather warmed up, I came out of the hospital with my teammate, and I was refreshed when I saw the scene of spring. We support each other and fight together, believing that the victory is just around the corner.

The intensive care team is divided into nine groups, and the four partners in my group are all from hospitals in Zhejiang Province. After coming to Wuhan for nearly 10 days, we have become accustomed to this rhythm. Two hours before taking office, we began to remind ourselves not to eat or drink water. Once we put on protective clothing and in the state of fighting, we should not have any special situation. We put on protective clothing and goggles, and carefully check and remind each other. Never leak the virus out and protect ourselves to fight this hard battle. We cut out hair again and again. I had long hair when I left Hangzhou, but I cut it when I got off the plane. The next day, the hairdresser helped me treat the broken hair to reduce the risk of infection. We all agreed that we should go back together as we came here.

My group is in charge of 10 patients, with two critically ill patients in single rooms and eight others in one room. From a work point of view, we hope that patients will cooperate with us. Although the virus is highly contagious, the cure rate is also very high. But the patients often have negative emotions and always feel that they are dying. Therefore, we often communicate with them and comfort them repeatedly and loudly, until masks and clothes are soaked and goggles are blurred ...
When I decided to come to Wuhan, I didn't intend to tell my family, for fear that they might be worried. Later, I felt that I still had to do so. Now I would spare the time to contact my family often with a phone call to make them feel at ease.

Gather the majestic red power in the front line of epidemic prevention and control

Today is Lantern Festival, which was originally a reunion day for us, but this year is really special. In the morning, Song Baishan, the team leader of the second batch of medical teams from Zhejiang and vice president of Zhejiang Hospital, led the aid staff of Zhejiang Hospital to come to spend the Lantern Festival. This is the first time that all our 10 people have been reunited after coming to Wuhan. After eating dumplings, President Song sent a feeling in the group: "Today, when I go out to pick up the goods and pass by the Yellow Crane Tower, I can only look at it from a distance in the car. After the victory, I will show you a close look at the it."

Medical staff are fighting in the front line. As the logistical support, we are busy purchasing food and various supplies for our team members to prepare for a simple Lantern Festival. In order to make them eat better, we specially bought stews and many ingredients for stewed radish and beef spine soup. Only when everyone eats well and has sufficient nutrition can they carry high-intensity front-line work. The Lantern Festival is also indispensable for dumplings. Bowls of warm dumplings also represent our wish. We wish the epidemic situation will end early and we will have an early reunion.

During the special Lantern Festival, we still want to create a little festive atmosphere, so we went out to buy happy gifts, lanterns, pendants, etc., hoping that everyone can feel the warmth of home during the festival.

Considering that some medical staff get off work late or have the night shift, we want them to eat hot noodles or snacks, so we opened the night canteen, which is the characteristic of our Zhejiang medical team. The night canteen is open from 8: 00 pm to 10: 30 pm. I am mainly responsible for the selection and purchase of food ingredients, and another member is responsible for cooking.

The medical staff are all on the front line, so our logistics support must keep up with them. If they can't think of it, we should help them and do our best in logistics support. As a Communist Party member, I would not leave my duty away. I would race against time and walk with the danger. As the secretary of the Seventh Administrative Branch of Zhejiang Hospital, I must stand at the forefront of the "epidemic" in Wuhan, face the danger, overcome difficulties, and gather majestic red power in the front line of epidemic prevention and control. Among the 10 Zhejiang Hospital staff who rushed to Wuhan, there were 6 party members, and the remaining 4 people had all submitted their application for joining the Party.

"Watching the patient recover and leave the hospital, we become much more confident."

This is my 18th day in Wuhan, and I have begun to adapt to this new work rhythm. Everything is familiar for me, so I am fine.

These days in Wuhan, the happiest thing is that the patients I nursed can be discharged from hospital. Patients who meet the standards and can be discharged from the hospital are beaming and grateful. They especially thank us, and we are really happy. I hope more patients can survive this and be discharged and reunited with their families as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the ward also experienced the patients passing away. Some patients suddenly got worse, and every medical staff tried their best to rescue them, but still couldn't protect their lives. At that time, I felt powerless and tears flowed involuntarily. We should not slack off at all. If we work harder, the patient's life will be more secure.

A few days before during the Lantern Festival, there were no family members around, but there were another special group of "family members" together. It was rare for the medical team members who rushed to Wuhan in our hospital to meet together and take a group photo. We also ate the sweet soup balls. My family members in Hangzhou said that the hospital greeted them, and they felt warm.

Wuhan often has warm sunshine. I am here and everything is fine.

The sickest patient in the transfer department made me sweat nervously all the way.

Hu Weihang:

I just got back from Jinyintan Hospital and sent the sickest patient in the department. The patient was in the ward with noninvasive ventilator plus pure oxygen, and the oxygen saturation was 80-90%, which made me sweat all the way.

Ren Qi:

Today, the patient's condition in the ward is stable. One of the sickest patients was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital smoothly, and the rest were in good condition. We spent a stable night shift.

After dinner, I talked with a patient (also a doctor) in the ward for a moment, and he vividly described to us the whole process of getting better so far, saying that he had gone to the gate of hell. Among his words, he said, COVID-19 patients are like climbing a mountain unable to see the peak. Indeed, the feeling of not knowing the peak makes one feel powerless. I believe he will cherish his health more after he is discharged from hospital.

After work, I walked back to the dormitory with my teammates from the hospital. I took the walk as an exercise.
