Famous German Nephrologists Visit Zhejiang Hospital for In-depth Exchange and Cooperation

On the afternoon of May 29th, Dr. Philip, Postdoctoral Researcher of Arthritis Research Center of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Principal Investigator of SPARK and DFG projects, came to Lingyin Branch of Zhejiang Hospital, which located on the shore of Xizi Lake, accompanied by Tang Yifei, Deputy Director of International Civil Science and Technology Exchange Center of Zhejiang Science Association. This is the first time for Dr. Philip to come to China, and Zhejiang Hospital is his first stop. Dr. Philip is an expert in the field of kidney disease, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of common and difficult kidney diseases, and has rich experience in kidney transplantation. He has published dozens of papers in high-end journals in related fields in the past three years.



Dr. Chen Jianguo, Director of the Nephrology Department of Zhejiang Hospital, Shen Jiong, Director of the Organization and Personnel Department, and Yang Li, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, accompanied Dr. Philip to visit the hospital and introduced the hospital for him.


On behalf of the hospital, Yang Li expressed a warm welcome to Dr. Philip's arrival. She introduced that Zhejiang Hospital was affiliated to the Zhejiang Provincial Health Commission and was founded in 1954. It is a tertiary level A comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and health care. The hospital has obvious advantages in multi-disciplines, featuring the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and emergency and critical medical treatment, thus forming a new medical pattern of coordinated development of disciplines. At the same time, she mentioned that the prevention and control of chronic disease in Zhejiang Hospital had been at the forefront of the country. In the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the hospital had won many First Prizes in the country. In the prevention and treatment of common chronic diseases of the elderly, the hospital had been actively exploring and had achieved gratifying results. Finally, she hoped to have more exchanges and cooperations with the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and would also welcome Dr. Philip to visit the Sandun Branch of Zhejiang Hospital, which was put into operation last year.



Dr. Xu Yuankai from the Nephrology Department of Zhejiang Hospital, introduced to Dr. Philip that the Nephrology Department of Zhejiang Hospital was established in 1989. Under the leadership of Director Chen Jianguo, it now has nephrology wards and a hemodialysis center. It can carry out various blood purification treatments such as hemodialysis, hemofiltration, hemodiafiltration, hemoperfusion, plasmapheresis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous blood purification, etc. The hospital specializes in solving the problem of vascular access in hemodialysis patients, and has made significant progress in using blood purification techniques to rescue drug and toxic poisoning and various critical emergencies, especially in elderly patients with multi-organ failure. In recent years, it has made accurate diagnosis and reasonable treatments for rare, difficult and severe kidney diseases, such as ANCA-related vasculitis, refractory nephrotic syndrome, and POEMS syndrome.


They had further exchanges on the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, and Dr. Philip said that more exchange activities could be carried out in the future to explore the cutting-edge research in this field.


Dr. Wang Yan from the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Zhejiang Hospital shared her experience in Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She said that the three months' study and exchange had far-reaching significance to her.

It not only allowed her to learn advanced medical technologies, but also brought a new medical perspective for her.





Dr. Philip then visited the Sino-American Diabetes Center and toured the wards and demonstration rooms with great interest. He said that this was his first visit to China and his first visit to a Chinese hospital. He hoped that he would have more opportunities in the future to communicate with Zhejiang Hospital, and he would also welcome Chinese doctors to study in Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
