On the occasion of “ World No Tobacco Day” and “ Children’s Day”, in order to care for the next generation and prevent the children from smoking the first cigarette, on May 29th, our  Sandun Hospital organized a tobacco control pledge signing ceremony and a large-scale free clinic with the theme of “ protecting young people from the traditional tobacco products and e-cigarettes.” Our hospital radiology department director Zhang Jianjun chief physician, ultrasound diagnosis department deputy director Hong Yongqiang deputy chief physician, medical laboratory department Zhou Huanqin chief technician, respiratory medicine Zhao Tian deputy chief physician, brain center Zhou Yumiao deputy chief physician otorhinolaryngology doctor Lv Huiyang, cardiovascular medicine doctor Mao Ping, thoracic surgery doctor Li Chuanchuan participated in the free diagnosis.

Sign a promise to say No to Tobacco

At the scene of free diagnosis, hospital staff, volunteers、patients who came to participate in free diagnosis, have signed their names on the signature board, solemnly chenuo refused tobacco, starting from themselves on their feet.

Zhang Hong, vice president of our hospital , came to the event early in the morning. She said that tobacco dependence is a chromic disease and tobacco harm is one of the most serious public health problems in the world. Smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke seriously do harm to human being health. To reduce the tobacco, we must start from ourselves. Next, our hospital will apply for health promotion hospital and the establishment of smoke-free hospital is an indispensable link. She was the first to pick up the pen and write down her name on the signature board.

Vaping on my hands, my wife detected pulmonary nodules

Uncle Wang is an old smoker. As he gets older, his health is deteriorating. His son got married two years ago and had a grandson last year. He said both his son and daughter in-law urged him to quit smoking, and he wanted to quit smoking for the health of his grandson. Seeing the free clinic activity in Sandun Hospital, he brought the physical examination report. The CHESTCT showed pulmonary nodules. Uncle Wang asked him to look at the CT results carefully and asked the method of quitting smoking in details.

Chen was an old smoker when he was young. After getting married and having children, he gradually replaced regular cigarette with e-cigarettes. He always thought that e-cigarette was safe so that it would not affect the health of his wife and son, which could help him to quit smoking. After three or four years of this, Mr. Chen’s wife received a health check. During the physical examination, a CT scan of the lungs showed multiple pulmonary nodules. At that moment, Mr Chen was confused that his wife did not smoke and focus more attention on exercises while he had quitted smoking. Was there something to do with e-cigarettes for his wife’s health problems?

The couple turned from the help from Dr. Li Chuanchuan, a thoracic surgeon at the clinic, who said that there was no studies to show the e-cigarettes helping smokers to quit smoking, and the World Health Organization does not recommend e-cigarettes as an aid to quit smoking.

Nicotine replacement products, nicotine patches, nicotine gum and other replacement products do not feel addicted because the content of nicotine will be aborted by human physical body and the absorption, release and metabolism of nicotine in the human body have gone through rigorous clinical tests, will not make people addicted. E-cigarette is a kind of electronic product that imitates cigarette, which highly imitates the appearance, smoke and taste of cigarette. Even the theory of use is as addictive as cigarette, which also forces people around to some ”second-hand smoke”. What’s more, e-cigarettes are even more harmful to students and young children. The nicotine in e-cigarettes can affect the brain development of students , and in young children, Nico can lead to fainting, heart attack and death.

Protect the young people from second-hand smoke

The theme of this year’s “ World No Tobacco Day” is to protect the young people from the traditional tobacco products and e-cigarettes. Smoking not only damages the health of smokers themselves, but also causes harm to non-smokers by second-hand smoke, casing lung cancer and other malignant tumors, COPD, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease and other serious disease. Exposure to second-hand smoke can lead to a 25%-30% increase in the risk of coronary heart disease and a 20%-30% increase in the risk of stroke. Young people are are in an important period of physical and mental development, they are curious about everything and their understanding of the long-term and chronic harm caused by smoking is not enough. It is the key to keep young people away from tobacco and e-cigarettes. There is strong research evidence that smoking contributes to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma in adolescents and increases the risk of tuberculosis and other respiratory infections. Infants exposed in utero to the toxins of tobacco smoke as a result of maternal smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke often experienced and reduced lung growth and function. In addition, new research shows that smoking increase the risk of death in people with serve coronavirus death. In addition, popular-cigarettes also contain nicotine, the additive ingredient in tobacco products, which may have long-term adverse effects on brain development in young people.

To response to a call for further, improving the masses of tobacco uses and the understanding of the second-hand smoke, taking a chance in the annual “World No Tobacco Day”, department of prevention and health care hold the yizhen activities with the joint social development in order to enhance the realization of the tobacco use and the exposure to second-hand smoke damages 、deadly effects and discourage people from using in any form of tobaccos.

We advocate to reduce tobacco consumption and creating smoke-free environments. Let’s create a healthy and smoke-free environment together.
