The 24th Session Geriatric Medicine Physician Training Improvement Class Is Successfully Held at Our Hospital

From April 14 to April 19, 2019, the 24th Session Geriatric Medicine Physician Training Improvement Class sponsored by Special Fund for Elderly Medical Development of China Health Promotion Foundation and held by our hospital with academic supports from Geriatric Medicine Center of Health Planning Committee, Geriatric Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Association and Geriatric Medical Physician Branch of Chinese Physician Association is successfully held in Hangzhou.

Professor Li Xiaoying, the 8th Session Chairman of Geriatrics Branch of Chinese Medical Association and Person-in-charge of Special Fund for Geriatric Development under China Health Promotion Foundation, Professor Yan Jing, the 9th Session Standing Member of Geriatrics Branch of Chinese Medical Association, Chairman of East China Geriatric Medicine Center Alliance and Party Committee Secretary of Zhejiang Hospital, Professor Wang Ling, Deputy Secretary General of Zhejiang Province Medical Association, Professor Chen Huaihong, the 10th Session Member of Geriatrics Branch of Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of Geriatrics Branch of Zhejiang Province Medical Association attend the opening ceremony. Professor Chen Xinyu, Vice Chairman of Professional Geriatrics Committee of China Female Physician Association, Vice Chairman of of Geriatrics Branch of Zhejiang Province Medical Association and Deputy Group Leader of Gastroenterology Group, Geriatrics Branch of China Medical Association chairs the opening ceremony.

Professor Li Xiaoying introduces the basic information of the training improvement class. Currently, the approach of “new methods for new members, and old methods for old members” is being adopted for the training of geriatric department physicians. The physicians who have been working in the department of geriatrics for many years need to educate and evaluate through the "Geriatrics Physician Training and Improvement Class" authorized by the Chinese Commission of Geriatrics Specialized Physician Education, in order to meet the development needs of geriatric specialties. Professor Li stresses the requirements of four listening to the class, requiring strict discipline, review and self-study every day, strengthen classroom interaction, serious examination and so on. Professor Yan Jing welcomes all the students from afar and introduces the basic situation of our hospital to them. Finally, he wishes each trainee a harvest in learning. Professor Wang Ling introduces the recent status of Zhejiang Province Medical Association and Geriatrics Branch.

This training invites domestic famous geriatric experts to give lectures. The teachers all come from senior professors graduated from the geriatric specialist teacher training course and senior experts in related fields. The form of class lecturing is adopted in the training, two geriatrics textbooks published by People’s Health Press are used. The unified training textbooks and training course materials are used, including Brief Introduction to Geriatrics, Comprehensive Elderly Assessment, Elderly Syndrome, Osteoporosis, Fall-down, Senile Dementia, Depression and Delirium, Rational Drug Use for Elders, Elderly Nutrition, Urine and Stool Obstructions, etc. The term of this training is 5 days, totally 40 class hours. The trainees are from 57 medical institutions in 13 provinces of the country. According to requirements from the sponsor, totally 100 trainees are enrolled. By means of the training, the trainees have basically mastered the characteristics of geriatrics, have clarified the research orientation of geriatrics, and will play an important role in undertaking geriatric clinical practices and scientific research in future.

During the training, the trainees have visited Sandun Hospital Area of our hospital, and have particularly visited Geriatric Department, Rehabilitation Medical Center, Teaching Simulation Center and Key Laboratory for Geriatric Diseases. The trainees have also visited the Hospital Integrated with Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine in West Lake District. Professor Chen focuses on introducing the basic information of the hospital, the recent situation of Geriatric Department and the “West Lake Mode”, and introduces the development mode and concept from our hospital on geriatric medicine. The trainees say that they have a deep impression of this, and all of them express that the geriatric medicine mode of our hospital is worth learning.
