Geriatric Medicine Key Discipline

In 1998, the Department of Health of Zhejiang Province was included in the first batch of provincial medical key disciplines construction, and became the second round of medical key disciplines rolling construction units. The main directions are: prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the elderly, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in the elderly and rehabilitation and prevention and treatment of tumours in the elderly.

Key Discipline of Critical Care Medicine

Led by Zhejiang Hospital, jointly with Zhejiang Medical College No.1 Hospital, Zhejiang Medical College No.2 Hospital and Zhejiang People's Hospital, it was included in the third batch of Zhejiang Key Medical Disciplines in 2004. In 2006, it passed the acceptance test.

Geriatric Medicine Key Discipline Group

In 2007, it was included in the first batch of medical key discipline group construction in Zhejiang Province, with five main research directions: prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in the elderly, clinical support and basic research of organ insufficiency in the elderly, prevention and treatment of endocrine metabolic diseases and related mechanisms in the elderly, and diagnosis and treatment of sleep disordered breathing diseases and related mechanisms.

Supporting disciplines of critical care medicine

Founded in 1988, the ICU of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Zhejiang Hospital is the earliest ICU established in Zhejiang Province and one of the earliest comprehensive ICUs established in China. It is now a national key clinical specialty (intensive care medicine), a key medical discipline of Zhejiang Province, a unit affiliated with the ICU Quality Control Centre of Zhejiang Province, a provincial youth civilisation, a clinical training centre for mechanical ventilation and haemodynamic monitoring, and a key laboratory construction project of Zhejiang Province established in 2009, which provides strong conditions to support the construction and development of the discipline. In 2011, it was listed by the Zhejiang Provincial Health Department as one of the key supporting disciplines in medicine.

Anti-ageing medicine innovation discipline

In the past two years, we have focused closely on the contents stipulated in the Contract of Zhejiang Province Innovative Discipline of Anti-aging Medicine and the Development Plan of Zhejiang Province Innovative Discipline of Anti-aging Medicine. The main research directions include: establishing a clinical evaluation system of human aging, research on the mechanism of aging and the influence of the environment on aging and its mechanism, as well as research on comprehensive treatment of anti-aging and common aging-related diseases.

Key Discipline of Integrative Geriatrics

The key discipline of Integrative Geriatrics in Zhejiang Province was included in the key discipline construction plan of Chinese medicine in Zhejiang Province in 2012. The main directions are: research on the combined Chinese and Western medicine prevention and treatment of geriatric critical diseases, clinical and basic research on the prevention and treatment of geriatric bone and joint diseases, and research on the anti-aging mechanism of Chinese medicine.

 Innovative Discipline of Sepsis 

Department leader: Cai Guolong, listed as the second batch of innovative disciplines by the Department of Health of Zhejiang Province in 2016, main directions: pathogenesis of sepsis, research on early warning system of severe sepsis/septic shock, establishment of standardized support treatment system for sepsis-related organ functions.

Innovative Department of Geriatric Medicine

      Department leader: Chen Xujiao, listed as the second batch of innovative disciplines by the Zhejiang Provincial Health Department in 2016, with the main directions: research on multidimensional diagnosis and treatment techniques for geriatric syndromes, research on the development mechanism and individualized treatment plan of geriatric frailty, and research on risk factors and prevention of geriatric sarcopenia.
