World Hypertension Day
Hypertension has become a common disease worldwide, and the number of residents with hypertension in China is about 300 million. Hypertension is known as the "invisible killer" affecting human health, involving a wide range of serious harm, is an important cause of stroke, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, peripheral arterial occlusion and other diseases. Tomorrow (May 17) is World Hypertension Day, and the theme of this year's campaign is "Accurate measurement, effective control, and a long and healthy life". Paying attention to the prevention and treatment of hypertension is essential to protect the health and quality of life of residents.
In Zhejiang Hospital Hypertension Center
There are several special hypertension patients living in the center.
They are invited to give a "personal account" below
Warning
Secondary hypertension
Mr. Hua
Over 40 years old
Mr. Hua (pseudonym) is a sports enthusiast in his 40s, but 10 years ago he started to develop hypertension with hypokalemia, which was not well treated, and he was often weak and dizzy, so he had to give up his sports hobby.
Secondary hypertension
Plagued by the disease, he approached Dr. Ding Fang, deputy director of the Hypertension Center of Zhejiang Hospital, with the mindset of giving it a try. With many years of clinical experience, Ding Fang considered that this might be secondary hypertension and admitted him to the hospital for treatment. According to the screening process for secondary hypertension, he was diagnosed with "primary aldosteronism" after completing relevant tests. After treatment, Mr. Hua's blood pressure was stable and within a few days, he was able to resume his exercise hobby as usual.
Often overlooked
Hypertensive nephropathy
When it comes to the awareness of hypertension, many people first think of hypertension as a cause of various cardiovascular diseases, such as cerebral hemorrhage and coronary heart disease. However, the kidney damage caused by hypertension is often overlooked.
"When it comes to hypertensive nephropathy, it's so common that we have one living in our hypertension ward." said Liu Xinwen, deputy chief physician of Zhejiang Hospital Hypertension Center.
Grandma Zhang
76 years old
Hangzhou 76-year-old grandmother Zhang (a pseudonym) suffered from hypertension for 8 years, because of poor blood pressure control to Zhejiang Hospital for examination, the results of the outpatient examination surprised Zhang grandmother, creatinine up to 263.3umol / L (normal value in 41-81umol / L), urine microalbumin / urine creatinine up to 679mg / g (normal value 0-30), suffering from hypertensive nephropathy, and is already end-stage. It was only one step away from uremia.
Hypertensive nephropathy
"Patients with hypertension leading to nephropathy are very common in our ward, but they are at different stages of renal insufficiency. If they are treated early and regularly, they may be able to slow down or even avoid the process." Liu Xinwen said.
Renal insufficiency
Patients with hypertension
Should be treated early and monitored regularly
Dr. Yu Wei, director of the Hypertension Center at Zhejiang Hospital, reminds that patients with hypertension should seek early treatment and regular monitoring at a specialist hospital to clarify the causes of hypertension and effectively maintain blood pressure within the normal range, and should undergo annual physical examinations to check for abnormalities in the indicators related to hypertension in order to detect early lesions of cardiovascular disease caused by hypertension, such as proteinuria, carotid atheroma, heart hypertrophy, etc. Early intervention is needed to curb the development of cardiovascular disease at the source.
We urge adults over the age of 18 to have their blood pressure measured at least once a year, and children and adolescents should also have their blood pressure measured once a year. Self-measurement of blood pressure can be done at home, or in-office blood pressure can be measured at the hospital, or a more accurate ambulatory blood pressure monitoring test can be chosen. An upper-arm electronic blood pressure monitor is recommended for measuring blood pressure at home. The criteria for hypertension are: in-office blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mmHg and home blood pressure average ≥ 135/85 mmHg.
